Texas Bluebonnet Award Books
Information from Packsaddle's 2015 - 2016 Student Handbook, page 9:
Junior Bluebonnet Award
This award is for students who read 12 Bluebonnet Books. Students must read a minimum of 5 chapter books, and the remaining 7 can be chapter or picture. Again, students must meet the same AR criteria as indicated in the Caldecott Medal requirements.
Bluebonnet Book Award
The Texas Bluebonnet Award (TBA) reading program was established in 1979 to encourage Texas children to read more books, explore a variety of current books, develop powers of discrimination, and identifies their favorite books. Two committees within the Texas Library Association (TLA) have the responsibility for selecting and publicizing the books eligible for this annual award
This award is traditionally given to second and third graders. Students must read 15 Bluebonnet Books to earn their medal. Students must meet the same AR criteria as indicated in the Caldecott Medal requirements. Of the books selected, only five can be picture books. Students are encouraged to read chapter books for this award.
